Ethically Mined Gemstones
Just found a great article on ethical mining.
http://www.cntraveler.com/shopping-style/2011/10/gem-mining-ethical-issues-smart-shopping
I differ in opinion with the author on the subject of synthetic stone:
YES they are more ethical, but there are so many beautiful domestic stones that are ethically mined available on the market. The average consumer just needs to KNOW they're available. Look at Benitoite for example!
http://thejewelerseye.blogspot.com/2008/06/benitoite-fancy-trillium.html
It's ethically mined in California.
My question is this: If more people had exposure to ethically mined and produced domestic gemstones, would the lack of the "exotic" factor make them seem less valuable?
What do you think?
